San Francisco Ballet announced its 2008 season yesterday, the company's 75th. And I love that for this big anniversary, instead of the usual 'looking back' type celebrations, the company will be focusing on the future with a fancy new works festival. 10 choreographers will create 10 new ballets, spread across three rotating programs performed during a two week period. The choreographers include Christopher Wheeldon, Mark Morris, Jorma Elo, James Kudelka, Yuri Possokhov, Julia Adam, Val Caniparoli, Margaret Jenkins, Paul Taylor and Stanton Welch - lots of exciting names in that list. The rest of the season contains old favorites as well - Giselle yet again - but also keeps SF Ballet's current focus on performing contemporary work.
On the organizational side, SF Ballet will also go through a graphic rebranding and web site overhaul, both of which can be previewed here. I thought their current brand was pretty contemporary and cool already, and their web site is one of the better designed arts org web sites, so hopefully this 75th anniversary update will mean even better things.

About Romeo & Juliet at LA Opera:
Was Anna Netrebko naked at any stage or was she wearing the flesh color underwear at all times?
I was too far away to tell for sure, but I believe it was flesh colored underwear. Even so, there was a lot of skin.
