Something you don't see at the Music Center every day: very, very low flying helicopters! As part of the
Mark Taper Forum's year-long renovation, they brought in a helicopter on Saturday morning to airlift the big giant new air conditioning machinery onto the roof. The plaza (where
Slow Dancing was set up earlier this year) as well as a few side streets were shut down while they swung the equipment up and over onto the roof of the theater. The lift was supposed to happen last weekend, but because of the big fires all over SoCal, the chopper was in use elsewhere and the lift was postponed.
They had me video tape it (among the more random parts of my job):
We were up on the roof of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, which involved climbing through a mechanical room (fun!). And before you ask, the video camera is pointing downwards because I was shooting the guys "catching" the equipment that the helicopter had just lowered onto the roof. Video coming soon!
