Boeing Boeing

Playing at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway, this production of Boeing Boeing is a deliciously funny, star studded staging of a 1960s French comedy by Marc Camoletti about a man named Bernard, who has three "air hostess" (in 60s-speak) girlfriends that he manages to keep separate due to their disparate time tables. Hilarity ensues when unexpected changes in their schedules have them all show up at his Paris apartment on the same afternoon. The cast is what puts the show over the top: Mark Rylance as Bernard's awkward visiting friend, who struggles desperately to keep the lid on the Bernard's infidelities (Rylance won the 2008 Best Actor Tony Award for his role), and Christine Baranski as the grumpy French maid. The three air hostesses are played in ridiculous but nonetheless funny caricatures by Kathryn Hahn as the loud American, Gina Gershon as the sexy Italian and Mary McCormack as the dominating German. Bradley Whitford played Bernard ably, but the role that takes a back seat to the comic scramblings of the other characters. The show was hilarious, a very fun time.
